The world has progressed. Today it is common to talk about sex and have a sexual relationship before even getting married. In many places, this is considered okay, and people have no objection. However, for those who follow Christianity religiously, premarital sex is considered a sin.

The Bible has some strict interpretations of premarital sex and defines what is acceptable and what is not, quite clearly. We understand in detail a connection between the Bible verses on premarital sex.

What is premarital sex?

According to the dictionary meaning, premarital sex is when two adults, who are not married to each other, are involved in consensual sex. In many countries, premarital sex is against social norms and beliefs, but the younger generation is okay enough to explore the physical relationship before getting married to someone.

The recent study’s premarital sex statistics show that 75% of Americans under the age of 20 have had premarital sex. The number rises to 95% by the age of 44. It is quite shocking to see how good people are to establish a relationship with someone even before they get married.

Sex before marriage can be attributed to liberal thinking and new-age media, which portrays it perfectly right. However, what most people forget is that premarital sex exposes people to many future diseases and complications.

The Bible has set specific rules when it comes to establishing a physical relationship before marriage. Let’s take a look at these verses and analyze them accordingly.

What does the Bible say about sex before marriage?

There is no mention of premarital sex in the Bible. It mentions nothing about sex between two unmarried individuals. However, the New Testament speaks of ‘sexual morality. It says:

“It is what comes out of a person that contaminates. Because it is from within, from the human heart, those evil intentions come fornication (sexual immorality), theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, licentiousness, envy, slander, pride, madness. All these evil things come from within and defile a person. ‘ (NIV, Mark 7: 20-23)

So, is premarital sex a sin? Many would disagree with this, while others might contradict. We see a relationship between the bible verses about premarital sex that would explain why it is a sin.

1 Corinthians 7: 2

‘But because of the temptation of sexual immorality, every man should have his wife and every woman her husband.’

In the above verse, the apostle Paul says that anyone involved in an activity outside of marriage is ‘sexually immoral.’ Here, ‘sexual immorality means having a sexual relationship with someone before marriage is considered a sin.

2 Corinthians 5: 1

‘It has been reported that there is sexual immorality among you, and of a kind that is not tolerated even among pagans because a man has his father’s wife.’

This verse was said when a man was found sleeping with his stepmother or mother-in-law. Paul says this is a grave sin, which even non-Christians would not even think of doing.

1 Corinthians 7: 8-9

“To the unmarried and widows, I say that it is good that they remain single, like me. But if they can’t exercise self-control, they should get married. Because it is better to get married than to burn with passion. ‘

In this, Paul states that unmarried people should limit themselves to engaging in sexual activity. If they find it difficult to control their desires, then they should get married. It is accepted that sex without marriage is a sinful act.

1 Corinthians 6: 18-20

“Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin that a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. Or do you now know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not yours, because you have been bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. ‘

This verse says that the body is the house of God. This explains that one should not consider having sex during one-night stands as this violates the belief that God resides in us. Explain why you should show respect for the thought of having sex after marriage with the person you are married to rather than having premarital intercourse.

Those who follow Christianity must consider these Bible verses mentioned above and should respect them. They don’t have to have premarital sex just because a lot of people do.

Christians consider the body to be God’s home. They believe that the Almighty resides in us and we must respect and take care of our bodies. So if you’re thinking about having premarital sex just because it’s normal these days, keep one thing in mind, it’s not allowed in Christianity, and you don’t have to.
