Consider fasting diet to lose weight
There are many things you need to do after your workday is over. You need to take care of your health by eating healthy, drinking water, and exercising. Fasting is an ancient practice that has been revived in recent years as a way to detox your body, control your weight, and increase longevity.
Following a fasting diet gives your digestive system a break and allows it to focus on repairing any damage caused by overeating or drinking alcohol.
There are many different types of fasting diets, but they all ask you to refrain from eating for at least 12 hours once or twice a week. This includes skipping breakfast and lunch on the days you are fasting.
Fasting can be difficult if you are used to eating three meals every day, but it’s worth it for the long-term results.
Fasting is definitely something you should try. If you know someone who has had practiced fasting before then you’d better ask how did it affect their life. Fasting helps free the body from the extra weights.
Those who do without food, alcohol, and cigarettes for a period of time, thanks to fasting, are able to acquire new inner peace and new energy.
What Happens to My Body During Fasting? What should I pay attention to when fasting? How long can I fast? We will answer this and more below.
The fasting benefits have been recognized for thousands of years now; the advantages of fasting were already known in ancient Egypt and ancient Greece.
“Anyone who wants to stay strong, young, and healthy must be moderate, train their body, breathe fresh air and heal pain more with fasting than with drugs”, this phrase comes from Hippocrates, the father of medicine.
A little about the fasting history
“Fasting is food for the soul”, wrote John of Antioch in the Middle Ages. Initially, fasting took place mainly in churches and monasteries, as a form of mental purification and spiritual exercise. The Christian tradition of fasting from Ash Wednesday to Easter has been handed down from generation to generation.
Hildegard von Bingen (1098 – 1179) is considered the pioneer of fasting. In her writings, she dealt with the spiritual advantages and benefits of fasting. She recommended: fasting for six to ten days with soup – combined with meditation exercises.
In 1935 Otto Buchinger published his well-known book “Heilfasten” (Therapeutic Fasting), in which he reports his over 15 years of experience in the field. His story has inspired many people: at the age of 40, Buchinger was discharged from his post as a naval physician due to chronic rheumatism.
By experiencing fasting on himself, he was able to free himself from the pain and establish his own fasting clinic. Another well-known cure for fasting dates back to Franz Xaver Mayr with the Mayr cure. Here, too, one must strictly drink tea, but in addition, a kind of milk porridge is consumed. Careful chewing is intended to stimulate delicate detoxification and regeneration.
According to a recent survey, 56% of respondents in Germany have already practiced fasting at least once for several weeks. Fasting is particularly popular among the generation aged 30 to 40. In the foreground, there is above all the aspect related to health.
The first three days of fasting
Thanks to the first three days, called fasting days, you can prepare yourself for fasting in the best possible way. In the days before the actual fast, only light foods are eaten. Fruits, steamed vegetables, rice, and potatoes are allowed. Again you should drink a lot. About three liters a day would be ideal: water, unsweetened tea, juices, and vegetable broth. On the contrary, alcohol, and cigarettes are prohibited.
Real fasting
The best way to start the day in the morning is with a wonderful scented herbal tea. Around noon you can serve yourself a delicious vegetable broth or a healthy vegetable juice. In the evening you will have at your disposal some tea, vegetable broth, vegetable juice or to change some fruit juice.
Our advice: better use liquid food with a spoon and pretend to chew it. This will help increase the sense of satiety. Every second day of fasting you can help your intestines by taking a little Glauber’s salt or with enemas.
Eat properly after fasting
Roast pork with dumplings and gravy? Of course, this is not the right thing to eat right after a fasting period. Much better to start with an apple. At noon you can serve yourself a vegetable soup. Enjoy your new energy and make sure you integrate slow food into your diet, eating consciously.
What Happens to Your Body During Fasting?
Your body uses sugar as a source of energy, which is present in the form of glycogen in the liver and muscles. After 24 hours the reserves are exhausted. Since the organs and even the brain require energy, they get it, during fasting, from other reserves.
During fasting, the body switches to the so-called emergency mode. Therefore, some people complain of cycle problems or are very aggressive while fasting.
Fasting can likewise bring about nutrient and mineral inadequacies, muscle breakdown, and looseness of the bowels. Symptoms of fasting include wooziness, migraines, low glucose, muscle hurt, shortcoming, and exhaustion.
How long should we fast?
A good criterion for fasting is seven days, once a year. Especially when you are fasting for the first time, it is best not to overdo it. If you feel good and fit after a week of fasting, you might as well try doing it for a few more days.
With fasting, the body also decreases muscle and organ proteins. Nutritionist suggests that all organs also tend to shrink a bit with fasting. The brain with fasting moves to another fuel. If the brain is not supplied with sugar, it uses the so-called ketone, which develops with the disposal of fatty acids in the liver. Furthermore, thanks to fasting, serotonin, the so-called mood stabilizers, can develop in the brain.
Fasting against aging?
According to the researchers, voluntary abstinence from food can have a rejuvenating and regenerating effect on the body. Special cleaning mechanisms stimulate the collection of residues, the recycling system of the cells.
This is currently demonstrated by Buchinger’s large-scale study of fasting, so-called juice fasting. Fasting had a positive effect on the metabolism of more than 1,400 people tested. Carbohydrate reserves are emptied, energy was drawn more and more often from fat reserves.
The result: blood pressure, sugar, and blood fat values are improved. 93% of the interviewees felt more stable and more balanced than at the beginning of the treatment, definitely rejuvenated.
